Clinically Demonstrated Performance.
Actival technologies are developed to provide continuous active protection inside the oral environment through controlled slow-release functionality. Our research and testing programs focus on biofilm control, bacterial reduction, and cavity prevention using active aligners and splints designed for long-term oral support.
Laboratory testing demonstrated clinically significant antibacterial performance after only 24 hours of use. In controlled studies, active aligners loaded with chlorhexidine achieved up to 99.999% bacterial reduction, corresponding to more than 5 log-scale reduction in bacterial counts compared to control groups. The results also confirmed continuous antimicrobial release and measurable biofilm suppression over time.
Beyond bacterial reduction alone, our studies investigated the anti-caries potential of active aligners in simulated oral conditions. The release of antimicrobial agents significantly reduced biofilm formation and lowered the presence of S. mutans, one of the primary bacteria associated with cavity development. White spot lesion formation was reduced by 83.3%, while several test groups showed no measurable caries lesion development during evaluation.
The research further demonstrated that antibacterial effects achieved with Actival active appliances reached levels considered clinically significant in preventive dentistry. Controlled testing confirmed targeted delivery, extended activity, and long-term effectiveness within the oral environment.
Developed in collaboration with CSEM and supported by multidisciplinary scientific expertise, these studies represent an important step toward a new category of active preventive oral healthcare solutions – where dental appliances do more than passively fit the patient, but actively contribute to oral protection every day.
